The First Last Phone Call

My skin didn’t crawl.
It lurched.
Every fiber I claim disheveled itself
I simply wasn’t ready
Nor was I certain what to be ready for
My heart was loud and heavy
My flesh damp in dry air
Twenty-two minutes remained until I had a call
I’ve literally had thousands
Why was this one any different?
It wasn’t. I was.
Why?
The facade was all that kept me grounded.
It was my ground truth.
But now I’ve admitted my lie with nothing left to hide behind.
And everything leaves me
Anxious.
